The seat of our identity is said to reside in the sacral chakra (Svadhisthana). Our concepts of who we are, as a unique expression of the divine, mostly arises from our perceptions of the interactions we have experienced in our primary relationships. (Parents, caregivers, siblings, lovers etc) This identity (ego) is who we tell ourselves we are, it is our elevator speech, or the story we tell a new person we are just getting to know. Often there is deep shadow (negative self-perception) that is part of this identity. This shadow is often at the root of our own self-destructive patterns.
