About the Event

We hope you can join us for this unique gathering! Once you arrive, you’ll be invited to walk the soft 50-yard woodchip path to the gathering place, a brand-new heated yurt under the canopy of cedars. Along the way, you’ll have a chance to connect with this near pristine location and leave all our worries behind!

Once inside, you’ll be invited to find your place in the circle for a welcome, then, we’ll seamlessly share from one person to the next for two or three rounds, without the pressures of performance or judgement, applause or politics. We’ll end the evening with an option to join-in on some group humming, harmonizing and a simple shared song or two.

Everyone is welcome, first 20 to register. You need not have previous vocal or Soundfalls experience. Those under 13, please bring a parent or guardian. No groups larger than four people, please. If unable to attend this gathering, you may call to request future invitations.

If you're like most people today, the isolation of the past few years has left you out of practice in expressing yourself in front of others, and we want to help you. Sharing in circle can be the steppingstone to larger gatherings, venues, and audiences, or can simply reacquaint you with yourself and the sound of your own voice in community. In our experience, the circle format is the most supportive one you can find, one that has withstood the test of time. Soundfalls is comprised of a web of dedicated contributors, volunteers and participants who work together to help communities discover, identify, and celebrate important shared historic places and open spaces, and the traditions that take place within them. The Soundfalls Experience taps into the infinite flow of all forms of our varied, yet common, wisdoms. Through collaborative and creative processes, we lift people up out of the categories they feel define them, allowing new relationships within community to form.

Founding Director, Maren Van Nostrand (BA, MUP), is a classically trained musician, performer and teacher with experience planning for, organizing, and facilitating community gatherings. For over twenty years, Maren taught piano, percussion, marimba, and voice privately and in schools. During this time, she has been helping people express their creative selves through lessons and workshops, circles and shows.

Maren’s entire career of thirty years has been rooted in the planning for, and protection of, sacred, historic, and natural community spaces, and facilitating the traditions that take place within them. Maren received training through the music departments of Grinnell College and University of Washington (including with Mike Crusoe of Seattle Symphony), Bobby McFerrin’s Circlesongs in New York, and Minnesota Music Teacher’s Association. She has also performed as a vocalist with Seattle Symphony Chorale, and as a percussionist with Northwest Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Seattle, and Sammamish Symphony Orchestra.
