Medicine Drum Making Workshop

The creation and birth of a medicine drum is a sacred journey of self-awareness and intention. We will fuse together alchemical elements to create and birth your medicine drum.  Your drum will express these elements through the potency of its unique voice and its medicine will grow richer and stronger through the years of releasing its song.

The medicine drum carries the spirit of the tree the hoop is made from, and the spirit of the animal from which the drumhead and lacing are made from. The tree and animal spirits combine with your spirit journey thus far, your prayers, intentions, the collective ceremonial energy of all gathered for the workshop, and the great creative forces that move through you to birth your drum. These alchemical elements fuse together to create your medicine drum.

It is an honor to be a keeper of the heartbeat of a medicine drum. Over the years of joyful playing in prayer, ceremony, circles, or just playing for the sake of it, the potency of your drum’s unique voice and medicine will grow richer and stronger.

Fee for the workshop: $150 + the cost of your chosen drum kit

During the workshop:

~ You will be provided with your own personal “pre-ordered” drum kit made of a maple wood hoop, deer rawhide drumhead, and rawhide lacing. If you would like a different type of animal rawhide, please contact me at suzanne@indigolotusyoga.com

Other hide types vary is cost (Cow, Horse, Goat, Bear Buffalo, Elk, Moose)

14” drum kit - $75

16” drum kit - $100

18” drum kit - $111

~ You will be guided into the hoop of sacred ceremony and inner journey to open your heart to your deeper motivations, prayers, and intentions for creating your medicine drum.

~ You will grow your medicine community from being in sacred ceremony and co-creation with the rest of the participants.

~ You will be nourished from the land and intentional community of Sacred Dwelling.

~ You will be given detailed instructions on the creation and care of your drum.

~ You will enjoy a vegetarian lunch and tea.

~ After all drums are complete, we will enjoy a special medicine drum birthing ceremony and closing circle.

What to bring with you for the day:

~ Open heart and intention of presence

~  An altar item that represents the prayer or intention for making your  medicine drum. (All altar items will be returned to their owner after the closing circle)

~ Comfortable clothing

~ Non-breakable water bottle

~ Bug Dope if you feel you need it

~ One ½” to 1” diameter and 12” to 24” long stick to make your drum stick with

~ Any extra snacks you may need apart from the vegetarian lunch provided
