About the Event
Come and join us in this experiential workshop inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi a.k.a. ‘Golden Joinery’. Kintsugi exemplifies the spirit of ‘wabi-sabi’, which is a philosophy centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Kintsugi is an ancient practice in which broken objects, usually ceramics, are mended with gold-dust lacquer. It reminds us that something can break and still be beautiful. Once repaired, it is stronger at the broken places. The cracks are where we are restored and renewed. Nothing is ever truly broken.
Throughout our journey of life, many of us are touched by adversity along with painful events, milestones, and threshold life opportunities that offer transformation. It could be a loss of a: loved one(s), part of yourself, divorce, job, health/vitality, etc. The overarching feeling may be ‘broken’. The process can feel like everything from a complicated tangled mess to exactly where you are supposed to be. Maybe even at the same time.
In this four-hour workshop, we will traverse a multimodal expressive arts process through restoration, introspection, and creativity by sharing our stories and how they relate to our bowl. The expressive arts give us the ability to reframe our experiences, re-organize our thoughts, and gain insight into our lives. Bowl breaking, specifically, supports emotional liberation and deliberate transformation.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Create a group altar and sacred circle
- Restore with movement and guided meditation
- Reflect through journaling and group synergy
- Engage in a bowl breaking and bonding ritual
- Adorn and repair your bowl
- Develop resiliency and self-healing tools
- Shape Meaningful intentions moving forward
